Owen is our current daddy dog. 

When it became time for Rufus to be retired, I began my search for our next daddy dog. I wanted a homebred puppy, one raised as close to how we raised our puppies as possible. I also wanted an athletic dog, but not constant “on” energy. I wanted a cuddly dog, I wanted a pretty impossible mix of traits. I looked for two years until I stumbled across Owen’s puppy family. Owen’s parents were the family’s only dogs, Owen’s puppy family lived in a rural area on a few acres in Holister, California. I purchased Owen off a picture and a long conversation with his puppy mom. 

A week later, a few days before Christmas in 2016, we drove 24 hours straight to pick up Owen and bring him home. He was our Christmas present that year. Mike did most of the driving, it was 7pm and dark when we reached Holister, poor little Owen was snatched out of his warm bed and handed over to strangers in a big noisy truck. He was pretty scared of the noisy truck at first, especially the squeaky doors, but by the time we got home, he’d decided things weren’t so bad. 

The kids in his puppy family had named him Owen and his name stuck. I’d never had an animal named Owen before and I really liked the name, we call him Awesome Owen and Owen-where-you-going among other nicknames. 

Owen, like all the other puppies I’ve had, grew up way too fast. It’s not that I don’t love the adult dogs we have, I just miss the puppyhood. I imagine that’s why I enjoy breeding these awesome little dogs, I get to have these puppies for awhile and then send them out into the world to become treasured family members. They are all different and all special, absolutely wonderful!

Owen is a goofball, he makes us laugh, he cuddles with me if I have a bad day. Owen is always happy, always up for adventure in any form. We say he was worth every mile and every penny, we’d have traveled to the ends of the earth to have this very special guy in our lives. I can honestly say, he’s everything I was searching for and so much more.
